Leadership

First Baptist Church is led by a plurality of Elders under the headship of Jesus Christ (Acts 14.23, Acts 20.28, 1 Timothy 5.17, Titus 1.5).

 

Glen O’Keefe
Senior Pastor | Elder

PastorGlen2Pastor Glen is an “Enfield boy” having grown up here and graduating from Enfield High School.  In 1986 he received his bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from the University of Hartford.  Additionally, he studied music at the University of Bridgeport and the Hartt School.

From 1994-2008 Pastor Glen served as an elder of the church, training under our Pastor Emeritus, Rev. George H. Heiland and under Dr. Donald R. Gommesen.  He was called by First Baptist Church to be the senior pastor in December 2008.

Prior to going full-time in the ministry Pastor Glen worked in the higher education and municipal government arenas holding various positions including director of administrative services, associate controller, and chief financial officer.  He is married with two grown children.

George H. Heiland
Pastor Emeritus | Elder

Pastor Heiland is from New Jersey.  He graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary with a ThB in 1963.

Pastor ministered for ten years as a home missionary. First Baptist Church of Medford, NJ commissioned him to serve with the Fellowship of Baptist for Home Missions in 1962. He pioneered an apprentice program for one year in Ohio. He served two years in Maryland, five years with First Baptist Church in Enfield CT. followed by two years in Braintree, MA.

In 1973, Pastor Heiland received and accepted a call to return to FBC Enfield as Senior Pastor, serving in that capacity for 21 years. Seeking a respite from ministry, he worked four years for a diagnostic lab in Virginia. Pastor was called again to serve as a missionary. Having been sent by FBC Enfield, he served with Grace Baptist Missions International in Port St Lucie, FL.

After serving ten years in Florida, Pastor  returned to Connecticut and is pleased  to be serving once again at First Baptist Church of Enfield.  He is married with three grown children and several grandchildren.

Dana P. Steele
Associate Pastor | Elder

Pastor Dana grew up in Enfield, attending First Baptist Church of Enfield since the age of 10.  He graduated from Fermi High School in 1989 and received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1994.  He became the Awana Commander at FBCE in 1998 and began serving as a deacon in 2000.

Dana was called by First Baptist Church to be an Associate Pastor in 2009.  His responsibilities include teaching Adult Sunday School, leading the worship services, overseeing the children’s ministries and offering counseling.  Pastor Dana has been trained in biblical (nouthetic) counseling.  If you or someone you know could benefit from biblical counsel, Pastor Dana would welcome your call.

In addition to his ministries at FBCE, Pastor Dana also continues to work as a license professional engineer and partner of a civil engineering firm in East Windsor, Connecticut.  He is married and has two young children.


Richard G. Walker
Associate Pastor | Elder

Pastor Rich grew up in South Windsor, CT and graduated from South Windsor High School in 1995.  He earned a bachelor of arts in History from Trinity College in 1999. Rich and his family began attending First Baptist Church in 2008 and he served as a Deacon from 2010 to 2017. He has also served in various ministries in the church including leading Prayer Meeting, Men’s Breakfast, leading a marriage small group, cleaning crew as well as preaching and teaching ministries.

The turning point in Richard’s ministry was when he was invited to preach at a Bible Conference in Liberia, West Africa in October 2016. Since then he has felt the Spirit’s call to minister as a Pastor. In April of 2018 this call was officially confirmed when he was ordained and called by FBC Enfield to be an Elder and Associate Pastor. Under the tutelage of the other elders Richard will assist in shepherding the church of God which He purchased with his own blood (Acts 20:28).

In addition to his ministries at FBC Enfield, Richard also works as a Warehouse Supervisor in Windsor, Connecticut. He is married and has two young sons.
